It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Alberto on September 21, 2020. He left us suddenly and tragically, after a brief illness. Linda lost the love of her life, Laura Alessia and Stefano lost their adoring papi, Gianni and Maria-Luisa lost their devoted son, Alice lost her cherished brother, Vilma lost a loving son-in-law, Mira, Brian and Gianni lost a dear brother-in-law,  Mattia, Caitlin (Hadi), Sean (Marie-Eve), Julia, Matilde and Maddalena lost a dedicated uncle, Guido and Marta lost a caring nephew, Giuliana (Paul), Franca (Jonathan), Linda (Guy), Isabelle (Alain), Sonia (Luigi), Luisa (Frank), Gloria (Antonio), Fabio (Silvia), Bianca and Paola (Giacomo) lost a dear cousin, countless people including Chris and Josée, Stefano and Sandra, Terry and Josée, Franco, Julie, Anne-Julie and Maxime, Rudy, Audrey, Fabrizio, Flaviano and many other friends and relatives lost a loyal and trusted friend and the world lost a gentle and kind soul.

After immigrating to Canada from Italy in 1997 and getting his Canadian citizenship without being sponsored which was important to him, Alberto wed his childhood sweetheart and their adventure in Canada began. Although they met when just teenagers, many years passed before Alberto and Linda were reunited. It was just meant to be.

For the most part of his career in Canada, Alberto worked in transportation logistics for Schenker and other international freight-forwarding companies, later concentrating on importing various products from Italy. Along the way, he met many people and rejoiced in these interesting friends and allies.

Alberto was a walking encyclopedia, a Renaissance man as one dear friend described him, well read in all things but especially knowledgeable about history, geography and world politics. This was possibly due to a lifetime spent reading National Geographic, a subscription given to him by his beloved uncle Guido since he was a teenager. He lived all over the world, spending several years in Africa, which particularly formed his love for travel. He instilled his love for travel and Italian culture in his children to whom he spoke in Italian at all times. His passion for soccer was well-known by all and Hellas Verona benefited from a devout fan who never missed a game. Alberto was an excellent cook and we were all  blessed with his gift for creating wonderful dishes and nourishing us with his love. Above all, Alberto was a listener, one who connected with all who met him due to his capacity to listen and focus on what one was saying to him. He genuinely liked hearing other people's stories and was a great storyteller himself.

Alberto adored his family, both immediate and extended. He was proud of his two beloved children, Laura Alessia and Stefano and was a very present father and husband. He had many friends throughout the world and will be sadly missed by all.

Respecting his wishes, Alberto was cremated and his ashes will be spread in an ocean dear to our hearts where we planned to spend our later years. He adored the beach lifestyle and passed on this passion to his children. Funeral services will be held at a later date in the spring, we hope, when family and friends can travel and meet to pay homage to this wonderful human being who inspired love in everyone he met. It was my pleasure and honour to be his life partner and his beautiful smile and touch are forever etched in my heart.
