In Celebration of

Zuzana Tanner (nee Vesecka)

August 23, 1949 -  August 31, 2020

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Zuzana Tanner, whose last moments were spent in her beloved garden in Hudson, Quebec.

Zuzana was a fiercely dedicated and cherished friend, sister, mother, and wife. She leaves behind her loving husband David, daughter Alexandra (Michelle), step-children Stacey (Sacha) and Darryl (Myriam), and her brother Karel Vesecky (Hanka). Beloved sister-in-law to the late Gerry (Maureen), Marilyn (Arnie), Sharon and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Known affectionately by many as Susan or Suzie, she is also mourned by her closest friends Diane, Stanley, Jarka, and Caroline.

Zuzana was born in Prague, Czech Republic and defected to Canada in 1968 at age 19 to escape the Russian invasion and forge a new life.

Zuzana was an avid gardener, voracious reader, gracious hostess, culinary master, talented artist, and always an eternal optimist. She undertook her projects with enthusiasm and continually acquired new skills and talents, from oil painting to woodworking to milking cows.

She had a great laugh and sense of humour. She spent her days making the world around her beautiful and taking care of others. Zuzana was a devoted animal lover, tending to the many birds, squirrels, foxes, fish, and frogs in her garden, as well as her dogs over the years Gorkie, Pooka, and Cuffs, and her precious kitties Latke, Mischa, and Marty.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local SPCA in Zuzana’s honour.

I was sitting in my backyard yesterday and saw for the very first time, a hummingbird. I thought of Zuzie and how much she loved birds.

I remember my last visit at her house with her dear friend, Diane. We had coffee and cake and chatted as we looked at a resourceful squirrel trying to climb up the bird feeder. The squirrel didn’t make it to the seeds and had to go back to find it’s hidden stacks!

Rest in peace dear Zuzie.

You leave behind a trail of love and kindness and that is the definition of a successful life.

All my condolences to Alex, Dave and family.

Zuzie was a wonderful and caring mom. She will be missed by all but will live forever in Alex, her daughter. May she have eternal peace.
