In Celebration of

Willem Frederik (Bill) Cornax

November 4, 1925 -  December 27, 2018

Beloved father, Opa, Groot Opa, and uncle, Bill passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 27, 2018 in Kirkland, Quebec. Dearly loved husband of Johanna for 64 years (deceased in 2015). Bill leaves in mourning his children Loni and Fred (Donna), grandchildren Mieke (Gary), Andrew (Adriana), Alexandra, great-grandchildren Annika and Amelia, nephew Bill (Caroline) and dear family in Montreal, the USA, and the Netherlands. He will be sadly missed by his cherished friend and companion Josette and many other dear friends.

Bill was born and grew up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. During his teenage years he experienced the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands the last year of which he survived the hardships of forced labour in Germany. Following World War II Bill served in the Royal Netherlands Military Police and the Royal Netherlands Air Force. In 1953 Bill and Johanna and their 2 children immigrated to Montreal. Bill served in the Canadian Army Militia and was a member of the Royal Canadian Engineers. In 1977 Bill and Johanna moved to Florida where Bill enjoyed a change of career as Assistant Director of Purchasing in a medical centre. In 1991 they retired and returned to Montreal.

Bill's enthusiastic zest for life was truly inspiring. He was a keen table tennis player until his 92nd year at the Dollard des Ormeaux Civic Centre and his creative spirit shines through his beautiful, treasured needlepoint works. His cheeky sense of humor did not diminish during the last year of his life as he met the challenges of cancer treatment. Near the end of his life he lamented one morning that he had not slept well ... "Because the Habs lost last night."

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the West Island Palliative Care Residence (Pavillon André-Brunet) for their excellent care and kind support and to the NOVA West Island nurses for the quality care, support and guidance they provided Bill in his home and after his transition to the palliative residence.

In the spring 2019 a commemorative celebration of Bill's life will take place with immediate family and friends.

Donations in memory of Bill to NOVA West Island and to the West Island Palliative Care Residence would be much appreciated.
