In Celebration of

Virginia Katopodis (nee Katsavrias)

August 18, 1934 -  March 11, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Mother, Grandmother, Wife and mother-in-law on Saturday March 11th, 2023, in Montreal after a difficult battle with Dementia.

Virginia was born in 1934, in the village of Plagia, Aitoloakarnania, Greece to parents Zois Katsavrias and Maria Pandazis and immigrated to Canada in 1962 along with her husband Anestis Katopodis and began their new lives in a new world far from their families and most importantly, without knowledge of the English or French language. Together they built a wonderful family and life. She leaves behind her loving Husband Anestis, her children Jimmy (Sandra) and Maria (Stylianos) and her grandchildren Alyssa and Anastasia, who loved her greatly. Virginia was predeceased by her older sister Stamata Stamatelos (Karsavrias)

Virgnia will always be in the hearts of her sisters Stavroula (Efstathios) Stamatelos, Cressida (Christos) Robotis and her brothers Taki (Paraskivi) Katsavrias and Spiros (Areti) Katsavrias, as well as her brother-in-law Niko and sister- in law Theodoula, and their daughters Katerina (Argyris), Dimitra (Jack) and Anna (Laki). Also left to mourn are the many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and Greece.

The family would also like to say a very special Thank You to her many friends she made during her life at the Jewish General Hospital, where she worked for 35 years and to the Lefkadian Association and community that provided some of the happiest moments in her life. For those who knew Virginia, she was a kind and generous woman who took care of and fed every single person who ever visited her home. She was constantly baking and cooking. Virginia was honest to a fault and spoke her mind and was as tough as they came. We know for sure that she is somewhere dancing to Efi Thodi’s music. We will all treasure these moments forever.

The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday March 16th, 2023, at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont, Quebec from 4pm to 9pm.

Funeral will be on Friday March 17th at St George Greek Orthodox Church starting at 11am – 2455 Chemin de la Cote-Sainte-Catherine, Montreal

Eternal memory for your wonderful mother.
She was truly a loving and wonderful woman. We have so many wonderful memories with her when we visited Montreal.
She opened up her house and her heart and we were fortunate to be at the receiving end of both her and her husbands generosity and cooking. They don’t make them like that anymore. She was loved and will be greatly missed by everyone here in Toronto. May she always Rest In Peace!
