In Celebration of

Vera Maria Sandor (née Varkonyi), BSW.

September 13, 1930 -  June 8, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the Beloved Vera Maria Sandor ( nee Varkonyi ) on June 8, 2020 at the Jewish General Hospital.

Vera was the Beloved Wife of the late Dr. Thomas Sandor, very loving Mother to Catherine and her son-in-law Karl. Vera leaves behind family in Montreal, Toronto, USA , Europe as well as many dear friends in Montreal and worlwide.

Vera was born in Budapest, Hungary to Elizabeth and Istvan Varkonyi. In 1949 Vera and Thomas escaped from Hungary, eventually settling in Montreal.

Vera worked for years in the banking industry then studied at Mcgill University. She very proudly received a Bachelor in Social Work. She took Political Science courses also.

The Sandor family was so well travelled due to Thomas's standing in the Scientific Research Community, which allowed Vera, a true people's person, to make and keep friendships worldwide. Her love of reading kept her very well informed.

We would like to thank the very dedicated people who helped Vera through the last few difficult years.: Dr. Irving Burstein (family physician) , Cynthia, Anuska, Erzsike, Emese, Karen. We would like to thank the fantastic team at the CLSC Rene Cassin , Julie and Camille and the wonderful teams of the Emergency and Geriatric Departments of the Jewish General Hospital.

Due to Covid-19, the Funeral Service is delayed.
In lieu of flowers , please consider a donation to the Université de Montréal's COVID-19 Research Fund at www.reseau.umontreal.ca/RechercheCovid-19
