In Celebration of

Theodora Elaine Pickrell (nee Lourenço)

December 27, 1924 -  January 13, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of “Darling Dora” announces her peaceful passing at home as per her wishes. She was surrounded by her family as she always was and has gone to be with the love of her life George.

An amazing mother to Peter (Pam), David (Natalie), Stephen (Linda), Christine (Michael), Suzie (Eddy). Grannie to Lauren (Mark), Jessica (Arthur), Matthew, Brent & Samantha. An incredible aunt to so many nieces and nephews who adored her like she adored them. A very special aunt to Danny.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad she immigrated to Canada at 21 years old and settled in Montreal. As the story goes, George laid eyes on Dora in her white bikini and proclaimed “I’m going to marry that gorgeous “long legged gal”. He won her heart over when he performed at the camp talent show and was the hit of the comedy routine.

Married in 1952 theirs was truly a love affair where each was more in love with the other. Support, respect, admiration and honesty were the foundation of their marriage which was incredibly strong until George’s death in 2006.

A huge part of their life was devoted to their “other” child, Westmount Florist where they worked tirelessly side by side. As the business grew and their children joined the business they were able to enjoy their winters at their condo in Florida and their cottage in the Laurentians. Nothing brought them more joy than their children, grandchildren and furry grandchildren.

Dora, a devout Christian was extremely involved at St. Edmunds of Canterbury parish and the Catholic Women’s League where she made some wonderful friends who were a big part of her life until the very end. They would often make their way down her driveway to sit with her in her garden for hours on end drinking tea and listening to her endless stories.

Everyone who knew Dora loved her so much for the kind, generous, loving, nurturing and forgiving soul she was. Her absence will leave a big hole in many hearts.

Thank you is not enough to our special angel Harman who was sent to watch over Dora like she was her mother. We have no words to express what you mean to us all.

Deepest thanks and gratitude to Dr. Remi Chehade who went above and beyond and to the many caregivers who were with Dora the last few months, especially our friend Myrna.

Mum, we love you, adore you and miss you already. You were simply the best !!!
