In Celebration of

Sylvia Blanchard

March 5, 1932 -  November 22, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Blanchard on November 22, 2021.

Sylvia is survived by her children Paul (Francine) and Suzanne (Felix), grandchildren Louise (Dale), Marc (Michelle), Elize (Harry) and Katrina (Chris), and greatgrandchildren Simon and Dean.

Sylvia had a wide range of interest and carriers during her lifetime. As a young woman, she moved from Moncton NB to Montreal to train as a registered nurse and worked mostly at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. About 15 years later, she when back to university so that she could practice public health nursing which she did with the Victoria Order of Nurses. After a few years, she and her partner completely changed carrier direction by purchasing and running a farm in the Acton Vale area. Returning to Montreal after about twenty years, she worked as an industrial nurse for a pharmaceutical company and after retiring from nursing, she tutored new immigrants English as a second language on a part-time bases for a few more years until health issues made her stop.

Sylvia interest were varied and far reaching. She was adventurous in food, trying and cooking “odd” and “foreign” foods before it was fashionable. She made fruit wines, jams and preserved, and loved sea food.

Sylvia was always interested in foreign cultures and travelled, especially in the latter part of life, to a number of far-off locations. Politics was ever a subject of interest and discussion.

She will be missed.

M'tante Sylvia, allowed me license in my early teenage years to explore intellectually and philosophically, our environment and la condition humaine. She imparted in me simply by listening and participating in our conversations, that discourse and listening are important. That I was important.
Never forgotten!
