The family of Robert (Bobby) Eric Tan of Saint-Lazare, QC sadly announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit of Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, on August 30, 2022, after a lengthy illness. He also leaves his dear nephews and nieces, Julia, Anthony, MeiXia, Yun, Andrew, James, Mark, Emily, Oliver, Kate, and, Luke, as well as a large extended family including numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada, the United States and the Philippines, in particular Rosalinda Go (Rod), Domingo Tan (Jackie), and Lynette Lim (Robert).

In life, we leave a legacy to our children, we leave our footprints wherever we travel, and we leave our fingerprints on every heart we touch. It would be impossible in a few short paragraphs to do justice to all those who have helped Robert live a wonderful, albeit too short a life. Nor is it possible to list his many and varied accomplishments. He did so much and touched so many in the short time he was with us. To honour his accomplishments and how he touched our hearts, the family requests that you take a moment to leave a short testimonial about Robert in the Guest Book (see the the tab "Guestbook".

The family expresses many thanks to the staff of the Jewish General Hospital, as well as the nurses at Vaudreuil CSLC, and Nova Hudson, for their attention and devotion to Robert’s care.

All who knew Robert are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Hudson at 1:00pm, followed by a reception at the Belvedere Cemetery and Funeral Complex in Senneville 2:30-4:30pm.

As an Atlantic Canadian, Dalhousie graduate and avid fisherman, Robert was passionate about the environment, with particular concern for the sustainability of our oceans. In lieu of flowers, please consider dedicating a donation in Robert’s name to Dalhousie University’s Sustainable Oceans - Ocean Engineering Fund. https://alumni.dal.ca/giving/where-to-give/big-solutions/sustainable-oceans/

To my dear friend Bobby, and to Karen, Eric, Lauryn and Justin, I want to thank you from the bottom our our hearts for welcoming Lori, the kids and I into your lives.

Robert and I met at colleagues in 2004, and even with me in Vancouver, and Robert in Montreal, we become good friends. Fast forward 3 years, we relocate to Montreal, and end up living the next 13 years around the corner from "The Tans". Over this time Robert and I became extremely close friends who commuted to work together. We also socialized as families, as well as, Robert and I golfed, fished and played hockey together. Our kids also played hockey and soccer together, and our eldest was also one of Robert and Karen's first hires at DQ.

I am so thankful to have found such an amazing friend in Robert. Robert was always the first to check in on me when he knew I was faced with a challenge, or when the Leafs would lose in the first round of the playoffs (a frequent occurrence). When we also moved back to BC for 1 year, Robert insisted he would check our mail, keep an eye on our house and he was even known to cut the grass when no one was looking! When we permanently relocated back to BC in 2020, of course it was Robert who was the one standing on our driveway waving goodbye to us as we drove away.

Robert - you are the very definition of the word "friend". I also have all the love and respect in the world for you as a father and husband! You are, and will always be, a role model to those who knew you.

Please know you and your family will have always hold a special place in our hearts.

With love from the Coopers,
Mathew, Lori, Jaedan, Madison & Caitin

Robert was just a wonderful guy to be with. Right from his early days at Abbott, he displayed not only intelligence, a hard work ethic, but also a true empathetic nature to all of us who worked with him…he was appreciated greatly.
Although I retired 17 years ago, I remained in touch with him, especially during his valiant fight against the dreaded disease….he always remained very positive.
Unfortunately, I will be visiting my daughter in London UK on Sept 29, but I will certainly have thoughts of him in my heart.
God bless you all, I hope my prayers help you in this difficult time…..Ang.
