It is with great sadness, that the family of Robert (Bob) Emmett announce his passing on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in his 101st year surrounded by the love of his children.

Pre-deceased by his wife, Winifred Whalen to whom he was married for 71 years and his sister, Barbara Smith. Lovingly remembered by his four children Marnie, Brian (Martine Desbois), Kathryn and Janet, and his grandchildren Gabrielle and Véronique. Family was central to Bob’s life, and we hold the memories of the many gatherings and traditions close to our hearts.

Bob grew up in the Town of Mount Royal and worked for Dominion Textiles for 43 years with his work taking him to numerous destinations around the world, nurturing his love of travel, history and gastronomy. His artistic eye, sense of style, technical knowledge and openness to innovation contributed greatly to the advancement of new textile materials and products.

A proud resident of the Village of Senneville for 69 years, Bob was an active member of the community. He served as Councillor for two terms, during which time he led the development of a coat of arms and flag for the Village and was influential in securing a national historic site designation for the historic estates of Senneville. He could often be found at Senneville Yacht Club in its early days, racing and working the BBQ at social events.

Bob was an avid skier and a regular on the Train du Nord every weekend in the 1930s as skiing opened up in the Laurentians. In his youth, he spent many summers at Hawk Lake and during his teenage years worked as a steward on the Canada Steamship Lines’ ships travelling from Montreal to Tadoussac. He continued to explore this area and other parts of Canada throughout his life. Never one to decline an opportunity for a road trip, there was always a new area that he wanted to experience with his family. A gardener and builder of rock walls, he always had a project underway.

Bob had an inquisitive mind and a quiet inner strength. His thoughtful, generous and humble nature earned him much respect and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

An intimate family gathering will be held to honour his life.
