In Celebration of

Robert Laforest

April 7, 1935 -  January 15, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Robert ”Bobbie” Laforest, surrounded by the love of his life Mavis and his children.
He was an amazing father to Bruce (Johanne), Robin (Steve), Todd (Lynn), Donna (Scott), Greg, Lynne (Danny),
grandfather to 13 and great grandfather to 9.
Born in Rimouski, Quebec to Henriot Laforest and Wanda Finkbiener, Bobbie moved to Park Extension in Montreal with his family which included 2 older brothers, Ronnie and Jackie (both predeceased) when he was very young. That is where he met Mavis at an outdoor skating rink when they were both young teenagers and so started a life long love affair.
He was an extraordinary athlete and excelled in hockey and baseball playing hockey for the Montreal Royals and enjoying a stint with the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team. He continued to play and referee hockey until he was 75.
Bobbie and Mavis were married in 1955 and started their family, moving to wonderful Belvedere Park in Pierrefonds in 1960, where they lived in the same home for 58 years. They started a new chapter at Le Cambridge in Pointe Claire for the last 3 years, where they met many new friends and Dad loved to play bridge and military whist.
Bobbie was always busy and always happy and enjoyed a 28 year retirement from Bell Telephone where he worked his whole career.
We are forever grateful for the many years we and Mom had with Dad.
He was the best and we already miss him terribly.
There will not be a funeral as per Dad’s wishes but we will have a celebration of his life this summer, date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Theresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence or Nova in Bobbie’s name would be appreciated.

Dear Laforest Family,

I was very sorry to learn about the passing of Bobbie. I send my deepest condolences to you all. When I would visit Donna in Montreal with my family, we would stay at Bobbie and Mavis’ home. We would squeeze around the table for our meals and I always felt welcomed. Bobbie expressed interest in our lives, asked questions and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our visit. The back yard pool was always in tip top shape. I will always think of Bobbie as the type of person who worked hard to care for his family and friends.

I was so saddened to learn of Uncle Bobbie's death. I have so many fond memories of Mavis and Bobbie and growing family visiting our family and vice versa - our family visiting theirs. Uncle Bobbie had the best smile and laugh - he always seemed so full of fun and energy. And we were wowed by all the sports he played especially given that our parents played none. We were also very jealous of the phones in their house - even one in the garage. All we had was one phone in our kitchen. Uncle Bobbie was always up for adventure - even agreeing to go flying with my husband.

Dear Donna, Mrs Laforest and family,
I am so sad that Mr Laforest has passed away. I remember him very well - he was kind, full of energy and certainly wasn't taken in by any our shenanigans in high school! Thinking of you all at this difficult time. But what a life to celebrate!
Lots of love and fond memories,
Lorelei
