Patrick Flaherty set sail from home in Saint-Lazare on his final voyage in the morning hours of Friday, May 5, 2023 at the age of 76; he was surrounded by love, respect and the comfort of his spouse and daughters.

A loving and devoted husband, incredible father and best-ever grandfather to cherished wife and soul mate of 26 years Sylvie Lepage, darling daughters Robin and Heather and treasured grandchildren James and Fiona, Patrick fought a good battle with cancer.

Born in Melocheville to a typical Irish-Canadian Catholic family - a small tight-knit army by today’s standards – fifth born of Edwin B. Flaherty (d. 1991) and Mary Harquail (d. 2008), Patrick spent his youth in Lachine and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, QC.

Predeceased by his brothers David (Karen Jensen) Edwin (Ted), Gerald, James (Jim) (Christine Elliott) and survived by his sisters Ann (Frank Gilmartin), Norah (Robert Levy) and Mary, his mother-in-law Anita De Launière, the mother of his daughters Maureen (Warren Ozanick), the father of his grandchildren Andrew Park, his much-loved goddaughters, nephews, nieces, aunt and cousins as well as his friends.

A graduate of Loyola College (Concordia University), Patrick pursued a brilliant career and retired as Vice-President, Sales and Marketing after 20 years in the aluminium industry.
He served as Commodore of the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club in Dorval in 2008-09 and accomplished his goals with the project of the green shed demolition and land reconstruction of the Club’s East side.
Patrick actively volunteered since 2013 with the Association québécoise de voile adaptée (AQVA) in many capacities but especially as co-leader of the successful Annual Regatta fundraising event.

A keen sailor, Patrick enthusiastically sailed the St. Lawrence River all his life most recently aboard Tara II travelling to Tadoussac and the Saguenay River or to the Thousand Islands on multiple occasions, in addition to participating in many regattas on Lake St. Louis. For 17 winters aboard Mariposa IV, he also loved sailing the Caribbean islands from the Virgin Islands to Grenada.

Patrick will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who knew him as a compassionate and kind man.
He was a man of action and a wise leader, smart, loyal, hard-working and thoughtful, an avid reader and a good writer. Dedicated to what is just and fair, he was a man of integrity. Friends were abundant and everywhere; his gentle soul and joie de vivre were simply irresistible.
He will always be in our hearts!

The family wishes to express its immense gratitude for the respect and devotion of the Hematology-Oncology division and the entire caring staff at the Jewish General Hospital, as well as of the nurses and doctors of the CLSC de la Montérégie-Ouest in palliative care and the NOVA Hudson nurses.

Patrick Flaherty a pris le large de sa résidence à Saint-Lazare pour son dernier voyage au matin du vendredi 5 mai 2023 à l'âge de 76 ans; il était entouré d'amour, de respect et du réconfort de sa conjointe et de ses filles.

Époux aimant et dévoué de sa chère épouse et âme sœur depuis 26 ans Sylvie Lepage, père incroyable de ses filles chéries Robin et Heather et le meilleur grand-papa du monde de ses petits-enfants adorés James et Fiona, Patrick a mené une admirable lutte avec le cancer.

Né à Melocheville d’une famille catholique canadienne irlandaise typique - une petite armée unie comparée à d'aujourd'hui - cinquième enfant de feu Edwin B. Flaherty et de feu Mary Harquail, Patrick a passé sa jeunesse à Lachine et Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, QC.

Prédécédé par ses frères David (Karen Jensen) Edwin (Ted), Gerald, James (Jim) (Christine Elliott), il laisse dans le deuil ses sœurs Ann (Frank Gilmartin), Norah (Robert Levy) et Mary, sa belle-mère Anita De Launière, la mère de ses filles Maureen (Warren Ozanick), le père de ses petits-enfants Andrew Park, ses filleules bien-aimées, ses neveux, nièces, tante et cousins ainsi que ses amis.

Diplômé du Collège Loyola (Université Concordia), Patrick a poursuivi une brillante carrière et a pris sa retraite à titre de vice-président, ventes et marketing après 20 ans dans l'industrie de l'aluminium.
Il a été Commodore du Yacht-club Royal Saint-Laurent à Dorval en 2008-09 et a réalisé ses objectifs avec le projet de démolition du hangar vert et de reconstruction du terrain du côté est du Club.
Bénévole actif à bien des niveaux auprès de l'Association québécoise de voile adaptée (AQVA) depuis 2013, Patrick s’est démarqué comme co-leader par le franc succès de la collecte de fonds de la Régate annuelle.

Marin passionné, Patrick a navigué avec enthousiasme sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent toute sa vie, plus récemment à bord de Tara II voyageant jusqu’à Tadoussac et la rivière Saguenay ou aux Mille-Îles à maintes reprises, en plus de participer à de nombreuses régates sur le lac Saint-Louis. Pendant 17 hivers à bord de Mariposa IV, il a aussi adoré naviguer dans les îles des Caraïbes, des îles Vierges à la Grenade.

Patrick va beaucoup manquer à sa famille et à ses amis qui ont apprécié sa compassion et sa gentillesse.
C'était un homme d'action et un leader avisé, intelligent, loyal, travailleur et réfléchi, un lecteur avide et un bon écrivain. Dévoué à ce qui est juste et équitable, il était un homme intègre. Les amis étaient abondants et de partout; sa douce âme et sa joie de vivre étaient simplement irrésistibles.
Il sera toujours dans nos cœurs!

La famille tient à exprimer son immense gratitude pour le respect et le dévouement de la division d'hématologie-oncologie et de tout le personnel soignant de l'Hôpital général juif, ainsi que des infirmières et médecins du CLSC de la Montérégie-Ouest en soins palliatifs et les infirmières de NOVA Hudson.
