In Celebration of

Patricia Harries nee Fairleigh

July 23, 1929 -  April 24, 2020

After a long and difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s, our beloved Mum passed away in the evening of April 24th, 2020 at the age of 90 to complications from the COVID-19 virus.

Patricia was born on July 23rd, 1929 in Ashtead UK to Doreen Farrant and Robert William Fairleigh. She later met her future husband, Michael Adrian Harries (predeceased) and moved to Canada. She was the proud Mum of Philippa (Bruce Thomas), Joanna (Chaker Chatila) and David (Linda Lepore) and adored her grandsons Michael, Sebastian and Thomas.

After raising our family, Patricia earned her Bachelor of Education degree in 1986 and embarked on extensive travels teaching English all over the world where she made countless lasting friendships. Mum will be remembered for her love of life, sports, travel, nature, gardening, adventure, energy and above all, her overwhelming sense of humour. Truly a world traveller, she climbed many mountains and sailed the seven seas. She made friends wherever she went, from war torn countries to political uprisings. She always found beauty in people and places and had a profound sense of justice.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Cathy Antalan, an angel, who made Mum’s last year’s more comfortable, treating her like her own family. Thank you Cathy.

Patricia’s passing has left us deeply saddened, but her humor and passion will never be forgotten. Her memories will live on through everyone that knew her. Mum, we love you and know you are now in a peaceful place.

Pat was such a character as was Mike. Both very bright. You never knew what to expect but they always had an agenda. We saw a lot of the family when we each had 30' Corvette sail boats at the Senneville Yacht club. Mike was always there at the binnacle or wheel while Pat was making everything work. She was so open to doing new things. We were often amazed to see what new adventure she had taken on. In latter years we saw Pat with the Morgans where she seemed to be involved with the gardens and just doing things with Liz. As part of the process over the years we also saw the 3 children and in later years I got to know David and to appreciate that he had inherited the the independence and initiative of his parents. As I write this I have beside me a new order of David's Cetraben Emollient Cream, skin cream that he created and now sells very successfully on line. I have used it almost daily. An amazing family and Pat was the core. With her active support they all moved on to successful lives. Pat until she could no longer do it was teaching or whatever.
Goodbye with a sadness but also with thanks for having known you Pat. Charles
