In Celebration of

Mary Bassett (née Mitchell)

September 16, 1933 -  May 22, 2021

Peacefully, at Place Kensington, Westmount.

Beloved wife of Robert Thomas Bassett and Mother of Christina, Keltie, Karen and Robert (Sue). Loving Grandmother to her Grandchildren Jasmine, Edouard and Gabriel (Shaar) and Elizabeth and Steven (Bassett).
Born in Toronto, Mary’s family moved to Montreal when she was an infant. She was the daughter of Frank and Edith Mitchell. She is predeceased by her brother Herbert (Joan); and her sisters Barbara (Norm); and Ruth (David).

After Grade School at St. Georges, she attended Westmount High School. After finishing High School, she was a student at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Her path then took her to McGill University, where she graduated with a B.Sc. in Home Economics. After graduation, she taught at Northmount High School for two years. Mary returned to teaching at Westmount High School soon after out youngest child was eleven.
Since a young girl, summers were spent with her family at Lake Memphremagog, where we all enjoyed a wonderful experience.
In her retirement years, Mary and Bob had eleven wonderful trips with the Senior Tour group.
As a devoted and caring wife and mother, she leaves a rich legacy of being a kind and generous person.
Mary celebrated a rich and full life before the onset of Alzheimer’s.

Our special thanks to the nursing staff and attendants at Place Kensington for their care and support.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary could be made to: L’Abri en Ville, 2352 Duvernay, Montreal, QC, H3J 2X1; The Unitarian Church of Montreal, 5035 Boulevard de Maisonneuve O, Montreal, QC, H4A 1Y5 or to a charity of your choice.

Mary had a wonderful laugh and was an enthusiastic supporter of most any activity.
She was a keen curler and was a strong supporter of the Royal Montreal Curling Club for years. I understand she was a star badminton player also.
I am forever grateful to have met Mary, Bob and Karen through Labri en Ville.
