In Celebration of

Maria Demanins (née Mastroberardino)

October 9, 1927 -  September 18, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria
Mastroberardino Demanins on September 18th, 2022, at the age of 94 years. She will be forever loved and dearly missed by her six daughters: Anna, Rosa (Francisco Berro-Sosa), Lucia, Lina (René Desautels), Silvia, and Rita (Andreas Hoppe) and her ten grandchildren: Russell, Daniel, Casey, Keenan, Adrien, Justin, Julien, Karina, Alyssa, Julie and other relatives and friends.

During World War II in Italy, she was unable to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She emigrated to Canada where she met her husband, the (late) Alfeo Demanins. She learned to speak English & French and worked at various jobs to supplement the family income while raising their six daughters. Our mother enjoyed writing her whole life. During her reflective moments, she especially liked writing poems, often about her early life in Italy. She enjoyed telling jokes, dancing, and singing old, nostalgic Italian songs. Her favorite place in the summer was being in her flower and vegetable garden. After her retirement, she continued to pursue her interest in travel, visiting many countries. She was open to learning new things and was skilled on her computer and iPad. She kept an avid interest in current news from around the world. She was a true woman of character whose love radiated towards her whole family. She always said her favorite moments were when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. We focused on giving her pleasurable moments and outings in her last years which she much appreciated. Cara Mamma and Nonna, we will love you forever and blow you a kiss, but this time for always.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, October 8th at 2 PM, at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, H2V 2P9. The funeral mass will be at the chapel in the complex at 3 PM, followed by a reception at 4 PM.

We would like to thank Dr. Végiard (CLSC Lachine), Dr. Khadoury, Dr. Chaput and the healthcare team at the Lachine General Hospital.
The family would be appreciative of commemorative donations made to the Lachine General Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care) : https://muhcf.akaraisin.com/ui/Lachine/donations/start

I have had the great privilege of knowing Maria for over 40 years. The qualities that I most admired about her was her grace, quick wit and intellectual curiosity. Despite her almost 94 years, she remained young at heart and nurtured un joie de vivre in all that she did. She loved her family deeply and was deeply loved and cherished in return. She will be missed by all who came across her path. Rest in peace Signore Maria.

Dear friends,
What a beautiful portrait of a lovely gracious lady. Although I never met your mother, I see now where your own generosity of heart, helpful kindnesses, open curiosity must have come from. Quite an inspiration, your mother. My condolences at this time.
