In Celebration of

Lucy Muriel Black (née Eberts)

March 20, 1940 -  February 6, 2021

With tremendous sadness we announce the passing of our most cherished wife and mother on February 6, 2021 after a courageous battle with several health issues over the past four years.

Lucy was blessed to spend 36 years with her adoring husband and best friend, Ian Harcourt Black. They shared many great adventures together, and embraced country life and the joy that it offered them, first in Vermont and later in Sutton. Together over the years, they created lovely and welcoming homes and gardens, and were never happier than when they gathered all generations of family and friends for endless fun and memorable times. Lucy was a consummate, gracious and generous host and her sheer delight and enthusiasm when surrounded by the people she loved was wonderful to see.

Lucy will be greatly missed by her two daughters Beth (Nigel Smedmor) and Mary Haslett (James Bowey); her step-children Willa (Don Jarvis), Andrew (Sheila MacMillan), Charles (Stephen Dietrich), and William Black (Melani Griffith); brothers Bob (Carol Traversy) and Crick Eberts (Heather Vivian); grandsons Matthew (Jessie McDonald) and Noah Small (Cassidy Speek); as well as numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

We are grateful for the wonderfully supportive care she received from her caregiver angels Carol and Grace, as well as the many staff members at Place Kensington (including Dr. Robert Iny, Sandra, Michelle, Samantha, Sara, Margaret, Yoke, Vinnie and Ingrid), her primary care doctor Paul Cruvellier, and many doctors, nurses and support staff at the MUHC and the Cedars Cancer Centre (including Drs. John Storring, VIvianne Nguyen, Christian Sirois and so many others).

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cedars Cancer Centre of the MUHC or the Open Your Heart Fund (at either the Montreal General Hospital Foundation or the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation) would be greatly appreciated.
