John’s Parents were Archie and Elsie Whatmore. John had two older sisters Muriel (John) and Beryl (Victor) they also leave behind numerous family members. He also had a twin brother Peter Brian, who sadly passed in April 2018 survived by his wife Ann. John was brought up in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

In 1939 – 1945 John & Peter attended school during the war, when they were air raids and they were at home they would stay under the stairs or in the Anderson Shelter in the garden. If they were in school, they would have to go under the school air raid shelters.

John when he was 18 years old was called up for National Service in January 1952. He was based in RAF Filton, Bristol, UK and his twin brother Peter was stationed in Egypt. John was a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) and Peter removed the bombs and shells from the Suez Canal and took them to the desert and blew them up. In 1955 John left the RAF.

In 1960 when he was 27 years old, he emigrated from the UK to Canada. In 1964 he started working for Air Canada and graduated to “Shop Inspector” for 35 years. Whilst he was at Air Canada, he was active in the Union. He was the “Byelaw Committee Chairman” for 30 years.

During this time John met and married Dorinda and started a family, they ha d two children Kimberly and Morgan. John joined the Freemasonry for 20 years and became a “Master Mason”.

He supported local politics in Beaconsfield and local candidates. One of the Candidates being Karen Messier who became a good friend to John. In John’s later years he regularly supported the Poppy Fund and attended The Remembrance Field of Honour. He was a member of the Beaconsfield Legion and shared many happy hours dancing with his friend Jean Grant.

He Loved reading and was a keen writer of poems. He had a great sense of humour, loved to share his jokes, was quick witted and an incredible memory even in his later years. John loved meeting and talking to people, he loved to make them smile laugh or both!

John wanted to say thank you to long time friend Dorothy Williams and family, Jude and Ming and all those who knew him at Avenue de Lourdes for their help and Kindness especially Fred and Willie his neighbors. John regularly talked on Facetime with his bothers daughter Sian and Rachel who live in the UK. He was very close to them even though they were thousands of miles apart. Sian regularly facetimed John to wake him up for appointments as Sian was five hours ahead in the UK. John wanted to say a big thank you to his children Kimberly (Andrew) and Morgan (Vanessa) and his wonderful Grandson Ethan for being his pride and joy, he wants you to know he loves you very much.
