In Celebration of

John Aitken (Jack) Sim

September 26, 1929 -  March 20, 2019

Now at peace after struggling with dementia for the past few years, Jack passed away on March 20, 2019 at the Bayview Centre, Pointe-Claire. Beloved husband of Rita whom he adored. They were happily married for 62 years. Much loved father of Iain (Eliane), Marjorie (Dan), Andrew (Loretta), and Stuart (Linda), and grandpa of James, Matthew, Daniel and Olivia McKeown, and Nicholas and Chloe Sim. Predeceased by his sister Jean and her husband Charles Hemphill. Jack will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends in Canada and Scotland. He will live on in our hearts and memories.

Jack was born in Glasgow, Scotland and was always proud of his Scottish roots. He studied electrical engineering and graduated from “The Tech” (the Royal College of Science and Technology) in Glasgow. He emigrated to Canada in 1957 to work for Northern Electric and subsequently, in 1963, for Teleglobe Canada where he had an interesting and successful career in undersea cable and satellite communications. Throughout his life, he loved fitness and sports, especially soccer which he played and coached, and golf which he played until he was 80. He also loved his annual vacations with family and friends at Cape Cod for over 50 years and, after retiring, winter holidays in Barbados.

Many thanks to Dr. Dollois and the kind and caring staff at the Bayview Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore General Hospital or the Bayview Centre.

In keeping with Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Belvedere Funeral Complex, 22025 Trans-Canada Highway, Senneville, Québec H9X 3L7.

So many great memories have resurfaced since my Grandpa’s passing (too many to share here), but whether it was the holiday visits, trips to Cape Cod, seeing Grandpa on the sidelines supporting us at our sporting events, sharing stories about growing up in Scotland, or the little things he would do to make us laugh or keep us entertained, Grandpa showed how much he loved his family and we loved him back all the same. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends, but he will live on in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace, Grandpa.
