In Celebration of

Friedrich (Fritz) Lanzer

November 22, 1921 -  September 10, 2019

We mourn the loss of our dear father, grandfather, uncle and spouse, who passed away on September 10, 2019. He was a man of strength, warmth and generosity, and an important presence in the lives of everyone around him. We were blessed to have had him with us for almost 98 years. Trained at the forge in the early part of the last century, he was an engineer and designer – often opting to make things himself rather than buy them; whether furniture, jewelry boxes, lamps, cabinetry or any number of tools. He was born in an age when all that was still possible – and often necessary. Survivor of the Second World War, his fervent wish was for his family to live in peace. All that, and much else he achieved.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth (nee Neumann) and his only brother Edmund, who fell in war at the too-early age of 22. He is survived by his wonderful spouse Nellie; his sons Frederic (Johanne) and Tom (Marie); his adored grandchildren Frédéric Laurent, Rémi, Nicolas and Geneviève; his nephew in Germany Edi (Rosi) and their children Jürgen (Franziska) and Susanne (Richard); nephews and nieces Andre (Su), Carmen, Sonja and Angelique; and other close relatives including Gina, Anna (Ray) and Elizabeth (Louis).

With solace in our hearts, we gratefully acknowledge the outstanding and caring staff at Selection West Island, who cared for him with dedication, gentleness and the kindness of angels.

Dad, you have well and truly earned your rest.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 11:00, followed by a service at 13:00 in the chapel, and a reception thereafter at:

Our sincere condolences to Tom, Marie, Nicholas, and Genevieve. Although we never met your father (grandfather) he sure sounded like a gentle, kind, and industrious father and husband. We are grateful to him as we have come to know you and your beautiful family. May you cherish all the loving memories of Fritz.
Warm regards,
Stacey and Ralph

I remember Onkel Fritz (I called him that too!) as a warm, kind, intelligent as well as wise man with whom one always felt oneself to be in good company.
