In Celebration of

Frances Minogue (née Samuels)

April 24, 1934 -  February 5, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Frances Minogue (née Samuels) February 5, 2023 in Montreal. Born in Montreal on April 24, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Louis Samuels, born in Cornwall Ontario, starting with a horse-and-buggy over the years he created Murray Hill Taxis, Limousine and Bus Service, and the late Margaret (Phillips) of Edinburgh Scotland, they all resided in Montreal. Frances lived a wonderful life growing up surrounded by her many Samuels Family aunts and uncles, attended Stanstead High School and then Ontario Ladies College. She married Gordon Minogue, and had four wonderful children whom she raised on her own. She leaves behind her son Danny (Elyce) of Westmount, QC; daughters Debra (Richard) Duke of Vail, Colorado, Barbara (Michael) Galletti of Montreal, QC, Suzanne (Barry) Johnston of Whistler, BC; grandchildren Andrew (Kelley) Duke, Stephanie (Pat) Vallieres, James (Carolyn) Lavinskas, Daniel (Flo) Lavinskas, Marc (Veronique) Minogue, Sara (Julien) Payette; great grandchildren, Katherine and Andrew Jones (AJ) Duke, Nolan and Lennon Vallieres, Emilia and Bennett Lavinskas

Strong willed, and completely independent Frances lived a full life devoted to her four children. She is well remembered for taking them skiing from the time they were toddlers every weekend going to Mt. Gabriel, St. Sauveur, Mt. Tremblant, then eventually to ski races throughout the Laurentians and elsewhere. She loved skiing, tennis, and travel, and is also remembered for her great sense of humor and love of jazz. She had a wonderful collection of music she’d always have playing and had her 78 record collection from years ago. She was a longstanding proud resident of downtown Montreal and could be seen walking along Sherbrooke Street visiting her friends and acquaintances in the museum, shops and restaurants. For those who knew her, she was a legend and her passing marks the end of a bygone era in Montreal.

The Samuels Minogue Family would like to extend its thanks to the healthcare professionals at Jewish Eldercare for their wonderful love and support over the years, especially during the time of the COVID pandemic. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those interested to donate to Jewish Eldercare Geriatric Foundation foundation.chsldjuif@ssss.gouv.qc.ca .

Messages to the family can be left on the funeral home website…www.mountroyalcem.com

Graveside service on April 18th, 2023 will be at Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt Outremont, Québec H2V 2P9, at 11 am, followed by a Celebration of her life from 2-4 pm at the Ritz Carlton Hotel 1228 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H3G 1H6.
