With gratitude for a long life well lived, the family of Marjorie Cushing Harbert, age 100, wish to announce her peaceful passage at the Fulford Residence October 14, 2018. Marjorie was born May 14, 1918 in Montreal, beloved daughter of Dr. Harold B. Cushing and Jessie Barnard.

She graduated from McGill University in 1941 with a medical degree and specialized in pediatric medicine at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. In 1941 she married Dr. Richard G.M. Harbert. They raised a family of seven children, Mary Beaudin (David), James (Veronica Doucet) Catherine, Peter, Nancy Gillespie (David), Barbara and Susan Callachan (John).

When Marjorie went back to work, she choose the field of botany over medicine. She spent many long hours exploring ponds, meadows and cliffs, gathering and cataloguing a variety of plant species. Her beloved husband often followed behind with camera in tow, ever ready to aid in extractions from muddy bogs. In addition to her work and raising a family, her contributions were many as she involved herself with Brownies, Girl Guides, Trefoil Guild, Meals on Wheels, Fulford Altar Guild and was an Honorary Life Member of the Board of Fulford Residence. She enjoyed her 101st summer at the cottage on Lac-des-Seize-Îles in the Laurentians visited by family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband Richard and son, James, Marjorie leaves behind her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff of Fulford Residence for the compassionate care of their mother over several years.
