In Celebration of

Dr. Ali-Akbar KASHANI

April 7, 1929 -  February 12, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Ali-Akbar Kashani at the age of 93, on February 12, 2023.

Beloved late husband of Mahrokh Sharghi, father to Firouzeh (Richard Aziz) and Farhad (Ana Gil), grandfather to Tiffany (Matthew), Amanda (Andrew), Michael (Tahnya), Bijan (Gabriel), Alex (Mallory) and Vanessa, and great-grandfather to Jordan and Chloe.

He was a loving brother to late Jamileh, late Parviz (Nasrin), Monir and Parvaneh (Hossein) and many nieces and nephews who were the fortunate recipients of his generosity and legacy.

Born in pre-revolution Tehran, he lived a fulfilled life travelling internationally, boxing in the Naval Academy, acquiring a doctorate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tehran and approving medications that entered the country as a board member of the Institute of Standards and Pharmaceutical Research of Iran. Ali-Akbar then met his wife, Mahrokh, and together, they continued the operation of Pharmacy Sharghi.

He was truly a charming, unique, classy, humble, generous, brilliant and fearless man who had a true 'joie de vivre.' He loved music, never stopped dancing and adored travelling. After moving to Canada in 1980, he enjoyed keeping active through his daily bike rides in Town of Mount Royal, baking Persian treats, playing backgammon and loved spending time with his family.

He was a supportive caregiver to his wife for many years and had a beautiful connection to babies and children; nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his great grandchild and grandchildren. Although he endured some notable challenges and illnesses in his life, his positive attitude, humour and exceptional mental strength helped him overcome it all. He was a man who rarely stressed and was a great inspiration to all around him; he will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to the many doctors, nurses and his caregiver, Melanie Madayag, who took exceptional care of him for many years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, where many knew and adored him. May he rest in peace. Visitation will be held at Mount-Royal Funeral Complex on Sunday, February 19th, 4:00 to 7:00pm.
Burial will be held on Monday February 20th at 11:00 am at Mount-Royal Funeral Complex
1297 Chemin de la Foret

I may not know you personally but I’ve heard so much about you from Amanda, and her love for you makes me feel like I have met you already.
Amanda went on about how she wanted to accomplish as much as she could while you were still here so that you could see and be part of it. I know that you will show her that although you may not be here physically, you will always watch her. May God bless you beautiful soul.
