It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved Don who passed away at Valleyfield hospital on Friday, July 7 at the age of 85.
He is survived by his loving wife Nadia Turbide, his children David (Jane Heath) and Jennifer (Jay Baruch) and his grandson Daniel Baruch. He will be deeply missed by his brother Tony (Margo) and sisters Penny (Rae Anderson) and Debby (Phil Niel), as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Don retired following a stroke in 2005. Prior to that he had been a lawyer, a senior public servant at the international, federal and provincial levels of government. He also worked as a consultant to governments, management, and unions specializing in the resolution of inter-and intra organizational conflicts.
Don was born in Montreal, Quebec on September 20, 1937. He graduated from Loyola College in 1960. He then studied law graduating from McGill University Law School in 1964. He was later admitted to the Quebec Bar after working with the UN (International Labour Organization) in Geneva on the development and enforcement of international labour conventions with lawyers from all over the world.
Don was gregarious and outgoing. He enjoyed horses and riding, skiing and all racquet sports. His favorite activity, however, was sailing with Nadia on their beautiful sloop, Renaissance II, around Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. That’s when they shared their happiest and most adventurous moments together.
His family wishes to express their appreciation for the care Don received at the Hawkesbury and Valleyfield hospitals, in Hudson by his excellent family physician Dr. Marie Leclair, with nurses from Hudson Nova, and the CLSC, as well as his caregivers, notably Jacquie, Isabelle, Marie-Claude, Dilys, Susan and Sharman.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Nova Hudson would be appreciated.
