Brian Whitmore Powell

August 20, 1945 - January 10, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Brian Whitmore Powell on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the age of 75 in Montreal. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ann. He leaves to mourn his spouse Lee Leng, his daughters Christine (Murray), Kim (Ashfaq), and cherished grandchildren Tru, Belle and Zachary. He also leaves behind his brother Arnie (JoAnn), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to being a loving partner and father, Brian enjoyed a distinguished career at the Iron Ore Company and at Lafarge. He was our family, our friend and our mentor.

Due to the pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I am absolutely devastated to hear the news of Brian's sudden passing and Fran and my condolences go out to Lee Leng and to Brian's' family.

Brian and I were best friends for 60 plus years and we have helped each other through good and bad times throughout those years. We have been communicating via messenger on a regular basis with my last note to him on January 2nd.

He was a great person with a big heart and a true caring for those around him. No matter how long it was between visits it always seemed like yesterday since we had been together.

He passing has left a hole in my heart and he will never be forgotten.

Brian and I were classmates in high school and had remained friends ever since. Visits over the past number of years were often sporadic, due to geography and the demands of employment. We had, however, kept in touch, and on each occasion that travel brought me reasonably close, Brian always went out of his way (often on short notice) to spend some time catching up with recent events and rehashing old ones. He was a good friend, and will be missed.
