It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear, wonderful and unforgettable father, Bartolomeo Martinelli on February 15th, 2023 after an 8 year battle with dementia. He was 88 years old.
Bart was a lover of life! Due to his innate spunk and unabated enthusiasm, his spirit was never diminished despite the many challenges he faced. His smile and his warm, welcoming nature always lit up the room he was in (and our hearts). With a constant thirst for knowledge, his favorite pastime was reading books which led him to become well versed in a variety of topics. Conversations always came easily as he was a great conversationalist.
Bart leaves behind his two children and their partners: Marco (Marisa), Mary Grace (Mischa); and his two grandchildren Madeleine and Leana. He also leaves behind his ex-wife Luciana, sisters Maria Lucia and Maria Incoranata, as well as countless relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Maria Angela, Maria Carmela, Maria Antonia and brothers Giuseppe and Tomasso.
Born in Avigliano (Potenza), Italy in 1934, Bart left his family farm in Italy at the age of 21 to join the military. When discharged, his comrades returned to their homes yet Bart decided to settle where he was, in the city of Milano. He completed his schooling as an adult and began working at a car manufacturing company as a mechanical draftsman. There, he met his future wife Luciana Piscozzi and they married in 1969. Once married, they immigrated to Toronto together and decided to form a family. It was in 1974, after their first child was born, that they moved and settled in Montreal.
Bart served the community employed as a zamboni driver and a film projectionist before becoming a driving instructor, opening his own driving school in 1971. The following year, a colleague inspired him to enter the field of real estate. In 1977, he founded his own firm, Napoleon Realties Ltd where he operated as a broker. Bart's career in real estate spanned over a period of 37 years. He was well liked by his clients and employees, some of whom became lifelong friends.
Of the different roles Bart played in his life, the one that shined the most was his role as a father. He really valued family and was an incredible dad. The memory of his loving and strong presence carries on in the hearts of his children.
We love and cherish you forever, Dad!
