In Celebration of

Anastasie Paleokosta

January 17, 1920 -  April 18, 2020

Anastasia (Tassoula) Paleokosta died peacefully on April 18, 2020 at the age of 100. She was a beloved sister, aunt and great aunt. Anastasia was predeceased by her brothers Michael and Kosta Paleokosta, her sister, Eleni Paleokosta Sayig and her brother-in-law, George Sayig. She is survived by her sister Rita M. Kosta. She is also survived by her nephews Michael Sayig, Yannos and Dimitrios Paleokosta; her niece, Marianna Montana and her beloved great nieces, Margaret, Amelia and Lily Montana. She is also survived by family in Greece.

Tassoula was born in Constantinople (Istanbul) to John and Maria Paleokosta. After running a boutique in Istanbul, she emigrated to Toronto in the late 1950s before moving to Montréal to work with her sister Eleni and brother-in-law George Sayig as the chief accountant for Nordest Volkswagen and Bleury Volkswagen. She won a number of recognition awards before retiring after 20 years. She was still young and energetic enough to travel, take walks to Mount Royal Park, play cards, read novels and stay up to date on current events. Into her 100th year she would still happily discuss social issues, history and politics bringing her vast life experience into the discussion. She was a gentle soul who was elegant and respectful to all. She was an active church member. Although she had no children she was like a second mother to her nephew Michael and niece Marianna. She lived a good long life, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Anastasia can be made online at the Hellenic Ladies Benevolent Society (HLBS).

She was family to me. Together with her sister Elly and brother in law Georges was one of the few people that were part of our small wedding in December 1960. Along with Michel, they have been since then our close family.
She will be terribly missed

Anastasia was, for many years, a dear friend of my late mother, Ekaterini, who passed away last year. May God rest her soul.
