Vera Grizenko

March 28, 1924 -  January 18, 2018

Vera Grizenko died peacefully on January 18, 2018 in Montreal, Quebec at the age of 93.
Vera is survived by her children, Dr. Natalie Grizenko of Montreal, Quebec and Alex Grizenko of Los Angeles, California.
Vera was born on March 28, 1924 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia to Vladimir and Paraskeva Roschdestvensky. Trained as a nurse, after the war Vera worked at a UNRRA camp (United Nations Relief and Relocation Agency) where she met Georg Grizenko whom she married in February,1947 in Belgium. After moving to Montreal in 1951, Vera worked as a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital until her son Alex was born in 1953. In 1960 Vera and Georg welcomed their daughter Natalie into their home. Her children remember her as a gentle, loving mother who always encouraged them to become good people, pursue education and achieve their goals in life.
Vera was always active in the Russian Orthodox Church and along with her husband was a teacher at the Russian School conducted under the guidance of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Montreal. She was also the principal of the school for over 10 years and was greatly admired by the students.
Services will be held at St. Nicholas Cathedral, 422 Boulevard Saint Joseph O, Outremont on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 7:00 pm.
We will always remember Vera for her lovely smile, her incredible stories, her kindness and the love in her heart. Vera was a source of inspiration and lifelong friendship for so many people. Vera will be deeply missed by her children Natalie and husband Stephen and son Michael, Alex and partner Leah and daughter Alyssandra.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at CHSLD Vigi Queen- Elizabeth for their attentiveness and support.
