In Celebration of

Stephan Marcellin Gaines

1962-2020
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephan Marcellin Gaines suddenly on June 6, 2020. Every day, Stephan enriched our lives with his generosity, humour, and love of life.

He is survived by his wife, Karin Aboud, his mother, Colette Latulippe and his brothers Vincent (Sylvia Ayoub) and Jacques (Nathalie Goldberg). He is predeceased by his father the late William Gaines. He also leaves to mourn, his nieces Colette (Patrick Girouard), Jackie and Norah, nephew Aaron, great-niece Emma, great-nephew Hugo, and his in-laws & their families. Also mourning his passing are his uncles, aunts, cousins, colleagues and dear friends.

Stephan valued being a part of something bigger than himself. He served for many years in the Canadian Armed Forces including as part of the UN Peacekeeping mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the early 1990s. He devoted years to his beloved Blackwatch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada including as a piper with the Black Watch Pipes & Drums. As a dedicated Freemason, he was the Grand Piper for a time and was recently honoured with the designation of WM at his Lodge. He volunteered his time to the Karnak Shriners, with the Patient Transportation service, driving patients from the airport to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Montreal. He also led the Karnak Shriners Pipes & Drums Corps.

As an elementary and high-school teacher, Stephan devoted himself to his students, most proudly as their music teacher, and worked hard to help them build good and productive futures through education.

Music and the outdoors were his great passions. He was a profound inspiration and had a benevolent influence on everyone he knew. He will be missed immensely.

A private memorial ceremony will be held, due to social distancing restrictions, at the Belvedere Funeral Complex in Senneville. Others may view the ceremony live online on Sunday June 28, 2020 via Zoom; the ceremony will begin at 11:00am.
