Royston passed away peacefully at Manoir Beaconsfield at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Bergen Wheeler, a son William of Quesnel, BC, a daughter Susan of Victoria, BC and granddaughter Alicia of Victoria, BC. He is predeceased by his brother and sister.

Royston was born in Stony Stratford, County Buckingham in England. He was educated in England. His first job was working for The Plessy Company. He started as a trainee in 1952 and went on to a high degree of proficiency originating designs and drawings. While working he continued his education and became a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers as well as his Ordinary National Certificate in electrical engineering. He was encouraged by a very dear friend to come to Canada and in 1959 he emigrated to St Vital, Manitoba. He joined the Dominion Bridge Company where he worked until it’s closure in the late 1990’s. He was very proud of this company and their many successful projects. Dominion Bridge during his years of employment specialized in the fabrication of steel structures for skyscrapers and bridges and was associated with the construction of many major steel bridges and buildings throughout Canada and internationally. He enjoyed working for Dominion Bridge and it was a very sad day for him when Dominion Bridge closed.

Roy and his family moved from Manitoba to Beaconsfield in the late 1960’s where they lived until 1979. Then, Dominion Bridge chose Roy as a Planning Officer for a project in Argentina, South America and he was employed there for a period of 3 years. Upon their return Roy and his family settled in Senneville. After the closure of Dominion Bridge, Roy enjoyed volunteering in Senneville. He worked with Town Council to keep taxes low and had a passion to see Senneville stay green. In 2018, health issues meant a move to Manoir Beaconsfield, a CHSLD care home. A special thank you to the staff of Manoir Beaconsfield who cared for Roy with kindness and compassion.

Roy and his wife Helen in their mid-fifties spent several summers studying the maps of Algonguin Park and doing some rather awesome canoe tripping. As a hobby, Roy liked to work with wood, enjoyed repairing everything and looked forward every spring to planting his tomato seeds, watching them grow and waiting for the harvest.
