In Celebration of

Ronald Edward Claudi

May 8, 1924 -  August 1, 2018

Ronald Edward Claudi, long time resident of Pointe Claire, Quebec, passed away peacefully on August 1st at age 94. Ronald is survived and much loved by his life partner and wife of 64 years, Madeleine Sargent Claudi, as well as their four children, Ian (Terri), Carol (Jim), Heather (John RIP) and Sheila (Olivier). He was a loving Grandad to Gregory (Caitlin), Andrea (Stephane), Kristen (Jeff), Jillian (Adam), James, Julia, Christopher and Clara, and “GG” to Noelle, Amelia, Sophie and Graydon.

Ron was born on the 8th of May 1924 in Glasgow Scotland. An allied soldier and war veteran, Ron was enlisted in the army of the allied forces. He obtained his engineering degree in Glasgow after the war. He left native Scotland for Canada to embark on an engineering career and a new life in 1949. Besides being a member of the Commonwealth, Canada offered two key advantages: The first was that Canada has great winds. Ron, an avid and adept glider pilot, became a pillar of the Canadian gliding community, and then became Canadian National champion in 1955. The second was a beautiful young Canadian named Madeleine Sargent who he met and married within a year. Sixty four years later their loving and mutually respectful relationship has been a pillar in their lives and those of their family. Ron distinguished himself by his love of, and devotion to family. He had a razor sharp intellect (mastering the NYT cryptic crossword in pen well into his 90’s!) which was balanced off by an enduring sense of humor. He also had a deep kindness and consideration for others. As one of his grandchildren put it, "You die twice; once when they bury you in the grave and the second time is the last time someone mentions your name". Lucky for you, you'll only die once.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday October 27 at Cedar Park United Church, 204 Lakeview Avenue, Pointe Claire. In keeping with Ron’s wishes, please do not wear black but instead bright colours. Jackets and ties are optional for the gentlemen. If desired, please donate to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
