In Celebration of

Rita Forest

April 26, 1922 -  October 14, 2016

Peacefully at age 94 in the morning of Oct 14, 2016, with family by her side, at the Lakeshore Hospital while receiving gentle palliative care. Daughter of Dalton McCarthy and Edith McGee. Widow of RCMP Chief Superintendent Laurent Forest. Sister of Gerald (Pierrette Dalbec), Ronald (Pauline Ward), Darcy (Jeanne Ouellet) and Oonagh McCarthy who have all gone before her and Eilleen Fullum (Ray) of Ottawa who is too busy with her 7 great grandchildren to join them. Sister in law of former Canadian Senator and University of Alberta Chancellor Jean Forest (widow of Rocky who built many schools and churches in Alberta), Gabriel Forest (Marcelle) who founded Manitoba’s first French CA firm, Anita Forest (widow of Georges, who once refused to pay an English only parking ticket and had the Supreme Court of Canada declare Manitoba officially bilingual), Louise (widow of Jean Paul) and Cathy (widow of Bob). Predeceased by Anna (Forest) and Alphonse Dufault, Cécile (Forest) and Earl Pickup, Alphonsine and Gérald Forest.

Mother of David, Guy and Lynne. Mother in law of Sylvie Remillard (wife of David) and Yves Duquesne (husband of Lynne). Grandmother of Daniel, Marie, and Christine Forest, Patrick and Lauren Duquesne. Great grandmother of Olivia and Chloe Filippelli (children of Marie and Bob Filippelli).

Rita outlived her husband by nearly 43 years. During this time she lived most happily in a hilltop bungalow in Hudson, Qc for 29 years actively playing bridge mixed in with a little golf and curling at Whitlock. Her last 7 years were spent at the Maxwell Residence in Baie d’Urfe under the superb care and concern of head nurse Marlene Chislett, her assistants Elvira and Sheriza and the many staffers in assisted living including Eva, Joy, Jocelyn, Gloria, Maggie, and Grace. Jackie Madeleine and Joyce Gill also provided Rita with wonderful consistent companionship for the last 5 years. Her family is united in sorrow and in appreciation for the many kindnesses others bestowed upon Rita and the many blessings Rita bestowed upon us. May God welcome her into heaven so she can be reunited with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory can be made to Centraide, which helps the poor in our community. Visitation will be held Oct 21, 2016 from 9 AM to noon followed by a noon chapel service at the Belvedere Funeral Complex, 22025 Route Trans-Canada, Senneville, Qc 514-457-4440. Reception to follow.

Lovely photo of your Mum, David. Our sincere condolences to you, Sylvie, your wonderful children, grandchildren, and extended and growing family. You and Sylvie and your family were so devoted to her well being, for which I am certain she was very thankful indeed. I know it is a comfort she is at peace and reunited with all who loved her. We shall see you Friday.

With our love,
Rod and Ann

Rita was the loveliest, most gentle and gracious aunt there was. While we lived far away, I always remember her soft voice and the visits to the west coast. She'll forever be fondly remembered. To David, Lynne and Guy and all your family members: hugs, prayers and deepest sympathies as well as wishes for happiness in your fond memories of your mom.

Lynne and I met at Hillcrest High School in Ottawa, and became close friends, including another wonderful person: Jane Purchase. We three grew into adulthood watching each other's backs, and sharing marvellous sleepovers at my house. After Doug and I were married, we often stayed at Rita's when we were visiting Lynne and Yves in Hudson. Rita was always warm, loving and welcoming, and she had so much class. I admired her tremendously, and I think her gentle, loving nature is what I remember the most. Thank you for those loving supportive years, dear Rita, and the wonderful memories.
