In Celebration of

Richard Saul Gottlieb

March 21, 1937 -  March 10, 2022

Richard Saul Gottlieb, pioneer of International Trade Law in Canada, passed away on March 10th 2022, at the age of 84. Son of Joseph and Gina Gottlieb, who immigrated to Canada just before the great depression, Richard became a respected member of the Canadian legal community becoming renowned as the foremost practitioner of Anti-dumping Law in the 1970s.
A devoted husband to his dearly beloved wife Sandra, father to Baruch (Jinran), Jon (Jackie) and Forest Adam, grandfather to Nate, and brother to Mel, he will also be mourned and missed by the many close associates who accompanied him professionally, becoming like family during his 50 year-long career.

An earnest champion of the underdog who preferred the difficult or impossible cases, Richard Gottlieb was as skilled and tactically brilliant in the courtroom as he was modest and congenial with his clients and colleagues. A graveside service will take place at 11h00 on March 21st. Following this, a commemorative reception will be held from 11h30-13h30, accompanied by the music and philosophy that he loved. Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to join the family at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex (1297 Forest Road, Outremont, Qc H2V 2P9).

The family would like to express their gratitude to Florence, Hazel, Thelma, Ajeesh and Lateef and the CLSC Metro staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Richard's name to the Montreal Neurological Institute Hospital or the MUHC Foundation, in recognition of the exemplary care and support by Dr. David Dawson.
