Lazar Odovic

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Lazar Odovic at the age of 98 after a long and happy life.

Predeceased by his devoted wife of 52 years, Milka (Dangubic) (d.2009) and his daughter Daniella (d.1974). Beloved Tata to his daughters Helena and Maria (David). Cherished Deda to his grandchildren Vanessa Moulatsiotis (Lorenzo) and Dorian Moulatsiotis (Mercedes). Lazar will be remembered and missed by his niece, nephews and extended family in Canada, USA, Bosnia, and Germany.

Lazar was born in former Yugoslavia, in the town of Rogatica. He was predeceased by his parents, Petar Odovic and Savka (Milic), and his brothers Vuko and Manoylo. Lazar met Milka in 1956, and they shared a life of happiness, love but also painful heartache, losing their eldest daughter at the age of 16. Like so many immigrants, they worked very hard together to support their family, and selflessly sacrificed to give their daughters and grandchildren opportunities which they never had themselves. His family was his pride and joy.

Lazar was a competitive marathon runner in pre-war Europe. His athletic training gave him the physical endurance to live a long life; and his strong work ethic, independence, stubbornness, dry sense of humour, pride, and resilience defined him - up to the very end, he did it his way! Lazar had a heart of gold always willing to help family, friends, neighbours and strangers whenever asked. He volunteered his services as a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, and was the oldest active member until he was no longer physically able to attend mass.

Lazar will be greatly missed by his family and they will hold cherished memories close to their hearts. Truly blessed to have had such a great father and grandfather in their lives for so many years.

The family will receive condolences at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, QC H2V 2P9 on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On May 2, 2023 at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, at 349 Melville Ave., Westmount, QC, H3Z 2J7, the family will receive condolences at 10:00am, followed by the funeral church service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will then take place at the Mount Royal Cemetery followed by a reception (the daca) in his memory at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, Fondation Santé Urbaine or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in memory of Lazar Odovic.
