In Celebration of

Kathleen E. Keefler (Nee Mayo)

October 5, 1933 -  November 12, 2021

Passed away gently on November 12, 2021, in Montreal, at the age of 88. Adoring wife of the late Dr. Robert Kinch, loving mother to Nicole (Jeremy), Michelle (Pete) and the late Danielle (Kim), step-mother to Martin (Miro), Richard (Anne), Cynthia, Jenepher, Shelagh (Marc), Robin (Greg), and proud grandmother to Juliana, Alexi, Natasha, Graeham, Juliette, Amelia, Abigail, Jeffrey, Shannon, Leigh, William, Elisabeth, David, and Matthew, and her many great-granchildren. Caring sister of her late siblings Francis (Margaret), Helen (Raymond), Richard (Marilyn), and loving godmother and aunt.
Born in Brooklyn N.Y., Kathy was a woman well ahead of her time. After graduating Erasmus High School, she took her keen intellect and insatiable curiosity to broadcasting school. At the tender age of nineteen, she landed a job at The New York Times that would mark the beginning of her lifelong passion for journalism. Following her heart to Montreal, she began a long and distinguished 27-year career, first in radio, later evolving to television as host of CBC’s Consumerscope, and culminating in her solo anchoring of CBC’s Newswatch. As Montreal’s first female TV news anchor, she was a role model and an inspiration. Always a consummate professional, she was charismatic, yet poised and polished. While Kathy was highly accomplished, she was equally passionate about being a loving mother, devoted wife, and loyal friend. Her warm smile, tender touch, keen wit, undeterred moxie, and ability to laugh at herself endeared her to many. Always keen to discuss the day’s events, family, history, splendid food, all things royal, interesting books, music, movies, and a good scotch, she never tired of company or conversation. Everything she did, she did with style. Our lives have been deeply enriched by having known and loved her. Our Brooklyn beauty. We will miss you.

A celebration of her life will be held on June 21st, 2022 at 1 pm at Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, QC H2V 2P9, 514-279-6540. Burial will follow at Mount Royal Cemetery.

My family very much enjoyed the time we spent with Kathy and Bob when they were in Texas. I loved my visits with Kathy when my business took me to Montreal. She was a lovely and intriguing lady. I will miss her.

We adored Aunt Kathy and cherish the times we did get to spend with her, albeit much too few and far between! May she rest in eternal peace.

I'll always remember her as my beautiful aunt, my father's baby sister.
I wish I had had more opportunities to get to know her better. Peace and God's blessings to her family, my cousins.
