In Celebration of

Joanne Carson MacDonald

April 29, 1948 -  April 9, 2017

April 29th, 1948 – April 9th, 2017

Courageously, after a hard fought battle with breast cancer, Joanne MacDonald (nee Carson) passed away Sunday, April 9th surrounded by love. Much like how she lived every day, her final moments demonstrated the strength and heroic perseverance that made her such a leader to so many.

Daughter to the late Bud and Pete Carson, she is survived by her husband and devoted caregiver Buck, daughter Tara, and sons Sean (Jess) and Corey (Amy). Joanne was loved and admired by her grandsons Declan, Oliver, Ben, and Sam as well as countless nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many loving brothers and sisters, including Mike (Lise), Barb (Dave), Karen (Brian), Tom (Denise), Teresa (Alf), Jim (Allyson), Dave (Lynne), Deb, and John. She is predeceased by her brother Bob (Peg).

Joanne will be remembered by her many colleagues and students at Dawson College for her leadership and innovation as a major contributor to the development of their Phys Ed. Program. Her knowledge and expertise impacted many college committees, and her passion for the cause played an essential role in the realization of a new sports complex on campus.

Over the past few years Joanne and Buck, her travel partner of 47 years, put more emphasis on living in the present and seeing all of what the world has to offer. They have travelled the globe with a great group of friends, living by the motto “if not now, then when?” She loved her Canasta crew and there was no problem a little white wine could not fix.

When you fight this long, you will encounter some remarkable people; our family would like to thank the dedicated oncology nurses at the Cedars Cancer Centre; Salwa and Glen, her wound care team from the MUHC, as well as Marc and his team at the Lac-St-Louis CLSC.

Rest now; no more waiting, no more chemo.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the wonderful team at the W.I Palliative Care Centre or support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Family will receive condolences on Friday, April 14th from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 15th from 1 to 3 p.m. followed immediately by a celebration of her life at Belvedere Funeral Complex, 22025 Rte Transcanadienne, Senneville, QC 514-457-4440
