Jan Maria Novotny

Jan Novotny passed away on March 10, 2022. Jan was born in April 1929 in Prague, where he spent his childhood and attended the French Lycée. Following the communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948, he immigrated to Montreal with his parents and brother George. He attended McGill University where he obtained a B.Com, and met his beloved wife Eva, with whom he shared 68 happy years of marriage.
Jan worked for ten years as a chartered accountant for the Federal Government, before establishing his own private practice. He maintained an active accounting office for over 40 years, working well into his seventies. Jan enjoyed skiing, jogging with his friends on Mount Royal, and travelling, especially by sea, having been a sea scout troop leader in his youth in Czechoslovakia.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, especially by his wife Eva, children John, Marie-Louise (Richard), and Anne-Marie (François); and grandsons Jason, Christopher (Aditi), Peter, and Philippe.
