In Celebration of

Irene Glezos Argyris

August 6, 1939 -  January 10, 2017

Irene Glezos Argyris, with serenity and courage, left us on January 10, 2017 at the age of 77.
Irene was the cherished wife and best friend of Efstathios “Steve” Argyris, with whom she was married since they were teenagers. For nearly 60 years, he was “Stathi,” her “Rock,” in a sublimely happy partnership.
She was the adored mother of Maria Argyris, grandmother of Stephanie Kirolivanos (Sotirios), and great grandmother of Violet Kirolivanos, the light of her life.
Irene was born in Montreal, the daughter of the late Peter Glezos and Mary Evans, brought up by her godparents, the late Loula Glezos and Peter Zerbisias, as sister to the Hon. Dionysia Zerbisias (Martin Bergman). Second of the 19 grandchildren of the late Eirini Zevgolis Glezos, she was much-loved by her 10 aunts and uncles (all now deceased) and the many cousins who formed the original “Glezos Clan.”
Irene was educated in Montreal, graduating from Concordia and McGill Universities. For 28 years she was a teacher at the PSBGM, as well as the developer of its Hairdressing Program. Her hundreds of students always appreciated her good cheer and sardonic sense of humor.
To know Irene was to know love, kindness, generosity, optimism and mischief. She made the most of every day, at home and during her travels. Visiting her and Stathi at their seaside summer residence on the Greek island of Lefkas was guaranteed non-stop fun. All her friends and family were welcome. Irene was the life of every party and, with her Stathi, the first to hit the dance floor. She enjoyed a raucous joke. When she was not playing the perfect hostess, she was the purveyor of home-cooked traditional Greek dishes to family gatherings and friends’ parties. She was the pinion of her extended family. Whenever there was a crisis or a friend in need, Irene was always there to calmly lend a hand.
Irene will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her and most especially so by her Stathi, Maria, Stephanie, Violet and Denny.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in her memory to St Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Blvd Brunswick, DDO, H9B 2N8 or to any community organization of your choice.
