We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Henry W. T. Eng in Montreal on June 29, 2022. At the well-lived age of 89, Henry died of aneurysm resulting in heart failure, at the care of CHUM with family by his side.

Arriving in Canada at a very early age, Henry attended Baron Byng High School and then studied engineering at McGill University. Full of life and ambition, Henry pursued a career in business involving import and exports and operated a dry cleaner while raising a family and doing volunteer work for many community organizations in Montreal.

Endearingly referred as En-Gee (NG) or She-Foo (shifu) by friends, colleagues and tai chi students, Henry was dedicated to the Montreal Chinese community where his volunteerism and leadership positively impacted Montreal Chinatown and inspired a new generation of Chinese Canadians.

Henry’s life-long commitment to the community were exemplified by his involvement in many organizations and projects such as the Montreal Chinese Community United Centre (MCCUC), Montreal Chinese Community Housing Corp, Montreal Chinatown Revitalization Program during the 1980’s, The Chinese Garden in the Montreal Botanical Garden, and especially the Hong Wing Wu Style Tai Ji Quan Association, which he co-founded.

Henry is survived by his wife June, his daughter Carole (Urey), his two sons James (Milly) and Rex (Josée), two grandchildren Camille and Julien (of Rex) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on July 15 (Friday), with condolences at 9AM and funeral services at 10AM in the Mount Royal Funeral Complex on 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, H2V 2P9. Visitation is at the same location on July 13 (Wednesday) and July 14 (Thursday), from 2PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM on both days. Flowers can be sent to the funeral location.
