It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helena van der Mee at the Father Dowd Residence in Montreal on March 23, 2023.

Helena was born 95 years ago in Rotterdam, Holland. It was at the young age of 19 that she met and married Léo (deceased 1992), in Arnhem, at the end of the war. With courage and hope she left her parents, her five brothers and sisters and came to Canada to build a new life.

Our mother loved being outdoors, riding her bicycle, playing tennis, skating and swimming. Coming from a musical family, she played piano and enjoyed classical music, and like her father she was a great painter.

She dedicated her life to her children whom she leaves behind; Robert (Betty), Victor (Chantal), Liliane, Philip (Janice), Raymond (Sonia), Danielle (Pierre), and Mary, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as family in Holland.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3rd, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday April 4th 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Royal Chapel at the funeral complex.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

We would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, the wonderful staff at Father Dowd for the special care provided for our mother throughout the years.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre mère bien-aimée, Helena van der Mee, le 23 mars 2023 à la résidence Father Dowd, de Montréal.

Helena est née il y a 95 ans à Rotterdam, aux Pays-Bas. Elle a rencontré Léo (décédé en 1992), qui allait devenir son époux, à Arnhem à la fin de la guerre. Avec courage et nourrie d'espoir, elle a quitté ses parents, ses cinq frères et sœurs pour commencer une nouvelle vie au Canada.

Notre mère adorait les activités extérieures. Elle se promenait en bicyclette, jouait au tennis, patinait et nageait. Venant d’une famille qui adorait la musique, elle jouait du piano et aimait la musique classique et, tout comme son père, elle avait un don pour la peinture.

Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Robert (Betty), Victor (Chantal), Liliane, Philip (Janice), Raymond (Sonia), Danielle (Pierre) et Marie, ainsi que plusieurs petits-enfants et grands petits-enfants et également des membres de la famille aux Pays-Bas.

La famille recevra les condoléances le lundi 3 avril 2023, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h . Les funérailles seront célébrées mardi le 4 avril 2023 à 11h à la Chapelle du Complexe funéraire Mont-Royal.

Au lieu de fleurs, votre sympathie peut se traduire par un don pour la recherche sur l’Alzheimer.
