<div itemprop="description">Harold Entwistle was born in Manchester, England on December 24,1923. <br /> <br />After serving in the Royal Tank Corps as a gunner during the second world war, Harold earned several degrees in the field of education including a Ph.D. at the University of London. He emigrated to Canada in 1969 with his late wife Winnifred Hartley and their son David Giles, having taken a position in comparative education at Sir George Williams University in Montreal. He developed numerous courses in Politics and Education and taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in Philosophy of Education. <br /> <br />Harold later played a major role in founding Concordia&rsquo;s Department of Education,and the graduate programme in Educational Studies, before retiring from Concordia in 1993. He authored numerous articles, book chapters and five books. He was active in the Canadian Philosophy of Education Society as well as the McGill Institute for Learning in Retirement (MILR). <br /> <br />Harold died in Montreal on February 7, 2015 at the age of 91 years; he will be greatly missed by his family and by countless friends, former students and colleagues whose lives he touched both here and abroad. <br /> <br />For more details on his academic career, please visit the Concordia University Archives http://archives.concordia.ca/P251.</div>
