Gary Semco

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary J. B. Semco at age 66 on June 26, 2022. After a courageous 7 year battle with multiple myeloma, he died in hospice in his hometown of Port Moody, BC. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Laura Silvestre, son Jesse (Renee), grandson Andrew, sister Joan (Rick), brother Frank (Thelma), many nieces and nephews, along with a number of other extended family members and close friends.

Part of his youth was spent with the Drummondville Quebec Sea Cadet Corp from 1969-1974. In 1973 he was awarded the Strathcona medal, the highest honour a cadet can achieve, given to 1 cadet in one corp per year. He later became a Cadet Instructor Cadre for over 10 years. During that time he escorted a cadet corp to Germany, among many other duties.
Not one to sit idle, he went on to graduate from McGill University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology, later returning to school as a mature student where he obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1998. In the Fall of 1998, he drove across Canada to BC to join his wife Laura. He was hired by ESBE Scientific as a territory manager in medical sales until retiring in December 2021.
In his spare time he could be found running in the beautiful mountain trails of Port Moody. His love of fitness led him to complete the Boston Marathon (2015) and two ultra trail races (2018/2021).
He had a zest for life and approached adversity with courage and conviction, testimony to his courageous battle with cancer. His memory will live on through all who knew him and the countless lives he inspired.

The family will welcome a celebration of life on Saturday, August 6 from 12 to 2 pm in the Mount Royal Funeral Complex on 1297 chemin de la Foret, Outremont, H2V 2P9. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to Myeloma Canada.
