Following a year long battle with cancer David passed away on March 6, 2016.

Born in London, England July 1931 to Albert and Elizabeth Weightman, brother of Margaret Heather and the late Barbara Calverley. David will be remembered by his children Gary (Donna), Clive (Krista) and Carol Ann, his grandchildren Christopher (Casey), Melissa (Chris), Jennifer and Carlee-Jean and by his great-grandsons Hunter, Mason and Daxton and many nephews and Nieces. He will be missed by his beloved companion Sylvia who was his caring, loving and consistent partner for 20 years and throughout the long haul of the cancer trajectory.

He graduated from Westminster Technical College in classical French cuisine. Followed by working in the kitchens of hotels in London and Switzerland. He completed his 2-year military service and then worked at a 5-star hotel in Brighton.

In 1953 Jean Bailey and David were married in the church of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. They immigrated to Montreal, Canada in November 1954 where their children were born and attended school.

David’s first job in Canada was with Canadian Pacific Railway dining cars that introduced him to Canada from Winnipeg to Halifax. Later positions in management were with Cara Airline Catering Division and with Eaton’s as Eastern Regional Food Service Manager. After performing various consulting assignments he completely retired in 1992.

In their retirement David and Sylvia enjoyed many great travel experiences on the road by R.V. as well as visiting and making new friends with house and car exchanges in Canada and around the globe.

Throughout his food service career David enjoyed his membership in the International Food Service Executives Association. He served as President of the Montreal Branch and was one of the Founding members to form the Charter of The Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals and served a term as National President. He was named Food Executive of the Year on two occasions.

Family will receive condolences on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 from 2 to 3 p.m. and a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at Mount Royal Funeral Complex. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cedar Cancer Institute, of Montreal, would be appreciated.
