In Celebration of

Cynthia Lee Surette

August 2, 1963 -  June 8, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia Surette at the age of 58, with family by her side, on Wednesday June 8, 2022, at the Royal Victoria hospital.

Cynthia is predeceased by her mother, Patricia Elizabeth Parkes, and step-father, Edward Jones. She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Peter Scalia, children Chelsea and Justin Scalia, brother Vincent Surette, wife Nancy Stewart and their children Ava and Marcus Surette, sister Tania Surette and husband Ronald Reid, uncle Buddy (Howard) Parkes, parents-in-law Corrado and Francesca Scalia, sister-in-law Pina Scalia, husband Mike D’Alete and family, sister-in-law the late Giovanna Scalia and family, brother-in-law Frank Scalia and family, brother-in-law Jimmy (Vincenzo) Scalia, along with a number of other extended family members and close friends.

Cynthia was a fiercely passionate person who did not hesitate to stand up for what was right, no matter the circumstance. This was only compounded by her sharp wit, making her unstoppable in any situation.

Cynthia's kindness and compassion was endless. She would not hesitate to help a family member, friend, or even a stranger in need. She was also, in many ways, the foundation of her family, bringing everyone together for each holiday or special occasion.

As a lover of animals and the 'snow white' of the family, Cynthia spent her life rescuing and taking in stray animals. She could always be found feeding animals in her backyard and even naming the raccoons, skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, and chipmunks that she fed.

Each morning she could be found tending to her garden, watering her plants, and caring for her orchids. She could spend hours in her garden. It brought her great joy.

Cynthia was known for her charm and wicked sense of humour. She had a love for books and poetry and was a great storyteller, lighting up any room she entered. She also had a passion for travel, circumnavigating the world countless times and sharing her experiences with friends and family.

Her memory will live on through all who knew her and the countless lives she touched.

Family will receive condolences from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 chemin de la Foret, Outremont, QC H2V 2P9. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the chapel of the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, immediately followed by the burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family will also be accepting donations to the Cedars Cancer Center, in Cynthia's honour.
