Bonnie Lou Wallace Planche, 82, died peacefully on May 5, 2017 at Hotel-Dieu Montreal hospital, following a serious accident.

Bonnie was born on December 20, 1934, in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, to the late Frank J. Wallace, Sr., and Essie Majors Wallace. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1952, Bonnie served as an ambassador for The Experiment in International Living in Switzerland and Belgium. In 1956, she was graduated from Grove City College. She then taught french in Frewsburg, New York, and in Shaker Heights, Ohio, before pursuing graduate studies at Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Bonnie was aided in her study of the theory and “practice” of the French Romance language when she met Remi Planche, the love of her life, at language tables. They married in 1962 in Ellwood City.

Shortly after their wedding, Bonnie and Remi moved to Paris and started their family. They spent a year in Lebanon for Remi’s work, and in 1970 moved with their four children to Montreal, where their youngest was born. In Montreal, Bonnie kept busy with her children and teaching English. From 1998 onward, the family lived in Montreal, Paris and Ellwood City. Bonnie loved people and places. She was fortunate to travel to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Egypt, Jordan, Martinique and throughout the US and Europe. She often took her family back to Pennsylvania for summers and family reunions with numerous cousins, and for Lincoln High School and Grove City College reunions.

Bonnie actively engaged her family in the arts, taking her children and later her grandchildren to concerts, the ballet and museums. She fostered her husband’s love of jazz piano, taking him during their courtship to hear Dave Brubeck and others in concert. For many years, she hosted musicians who came to Montreal for the “Concours International de Montréal”, an international music competition. Bonnie loved planning parties, birthday and family celebrations, making people happy, having friends in her home and sending greeting cards. Family was everything to Bonnie, including Remi’s extensive French family. She always said: “Come see us in Paris or Montreal!” Despite her stroke in 2012, Bonnie continued traveling with her husband, and enjoying the arts and her family.

Bonnie lived in the moment and had many projects. She was exuberant, fearless, generous and very spiritual. Bonnie was a devoted follower of the Baha’i faith. She was also a longtime congregant of The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal, where she loved to listen to the choir and the bells, of Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City, PA. and of the American Church in Paris.

Bonnie was predeceased by her infant sister Gloria Mae Wallace, her parents, and her brother Frank J. Wallace, Jr. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband, Remi Planche, and her children: Joelle (Christopher Ryan) Planche-Ryan of Paris, France; Ben (Sarah) Planche of Sacramento, California; Frank-Thierry Planche of Wayne, PA; Marielle (Pascal Rolland) Planche of Toulouse, France; and Jocelyne (Olivier Philardeau) Planche of Wayne, PA. Bonnie also leaves seven grandchildren: Emma, Chloe, and Luke Planche of Sacramento, CA; and Adrian, Louise, Madeleine, and Marie-Alix of Wayne, PA. Bonnie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” McAnallen Wallace of Portersville, PA, and her nephews Frank J. “FJ” Wallace and Nelson D. Wallace, both of Shenango Turnpike, PA, and their children. In France, Bonnie is survived by her siblings-in-law: Christine (Georges) Botton; Olivier (Dany) Planche; Hubert (Janine) Planche; François (Evelyne) Planche; Cécile Planche; and Agnès Planche; and many nieces and nephews. And by many dear friends in many places.

The funeral service will be held at Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, H2V 2P9 (514) 279-6540 on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 1 p.m. followed by the burial.

À Montréal, Bonnie s'occupe de ses enfants et enseigne l'anglais. À partir de 1998, la famille partage son temps entre Montréal, Paris et Ellwood City. Bonnie aimait les gens et les lieux. Elle a la chance de voyager en Alaska, à Hawaii, en Egypte, en Jordanie, en Martinique et à travers les États-Unis et l’Europe. Elle amène souvent sa famille en Pennsylvanie pour des vacances en famille et des rencontres entre cousins, et pour des réunions à Lincoln High School et Grove City College.

Bonnie a activement engagé sa famille dans les arts, emmenant ses enfants et plus tard ses petits-enfants aux concerts, aux ballets et aux musées. Elle a cultivé l'amour de son mari pour le jazz, l'emmenant très tôt entendre Dave Brubeck et d’autres en concert. Pendant de nombreuses années, elle a accueilli des musiciens venus à Montréal pour le Concours International de Montréal. Bonnie aimait les anniversaires et les fêtes familiales, rendre les gens heureux, recevoir des amis et envoyer des cartes de vœux. La famille était tout pour elle, y compris la famille française de Remi. Elle disait souvent : "Venez nous voir à Paris ou à Montréal!". Malgré son AVC en 2012, Bonnie a continué à voyager avec son mari et à profiter des arts et de sa famille.

Bonnie vivait dans le moment présent et avait de nombreux projets. Elle était exubérante, sans peur, généreuse et spirituelle. Bonnie était une disciple dévouée de la foi baha'i. Elle était également une congrégataire de longue date de l'Église de Saint-Andrew and Saint-Paul à Montréal, où elle aimait écouter le chœur, de Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church à Ellwood City et de l'Église Américaine à Paris.

Bonnie a été précédée par sa petite sœur Gloria Mae Wallace, ses parents, et son frère Frank J. Wallace, Jr .. En France, Bonnie laisse dans le deuil ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs Christine (Georges) Botton, Olivier (Dany) Planche, Hubert (Janine) Planche, François (Evelyne) Planche, Cécile Planche, Agnès Planche, ses nièces et neveux ainsi que de nombreux amis partout dans le monde.

Le service funéraire aura lieu au Complexe Funéraire Mont-Royal 1297 chemin de la Forêt, Outremont H2V 2P9 (514) 279-6540, lundi le 15 mai 2017 à 13h00 suivi de l’inhumation. La famille souhaite remercier chaleureusement le personnel hospitalier de l'Hôtel-Dieu pour ses soins attentifs.
