Barbara Gail Haskel

August 15, 1939 -  August 14, 2017

Barbara Gail Haskel
August, 15 1939 – August, 14 2017

Our bright and loving sister and aunt died 14 August 2017, at the age of 77. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Charles and Idah Haskel, she attended James Madison H.S. ('56), Jackson College (Tufts University) ('60), and earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1972. She lived in Montreal for more than 40 years, and was a professor of political science at McGill University. She loved choral singing, to travel and to engage in thoughtful dialectic. She relished the friendship of many around the globe. Barbara will be missed by her sister, Marjorie Greenwald (Barry), her niece, Jessica Greenwald O'Brien (Garry), her nephew, Jeffrey Greenwald (Suzanne), and her great-niece and nephews, Alexeya, Nathaniel, Gabriel and Aleksander, as well as her many devoted friends. As a former member of their Board of Directors, donations in Barbara’s name, made to CAMMAC Music Center in Harrington, QC would be appreciated.

Please feel free to add a photo or story to this Memorial page.

We will have a Celebration of Barbara's Life on 14 October 2017, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the reception room of the Mount Royal Funeral Home. Please join us to remember a wonderful aunt, sister, sister-in-law, cousin and dear friend.

We had known Barbara for over 50(!) years and it was always a treat to see her at Passover,
Thanksgiving,etc.-practically whenever she was in Chicago. She was of course interested in
the wide-world but related very well on an individual basis-and she had a sense of humor!
She will be missed ! Dan and Mitch

Barbara, who made one aware of the really important things in life, the best friend anyone could have.

Gene and Ann Armstrong (Friends)

Barbara was a kind and loving person who came to the rescue some years ago of Gene's mother who was traveling in Montreal when her traveling companion became seriously ill and needed to be hospitalized. Barbara was extremely helpful, providing much needed support and friendship at a time when Gene's mother was unexpectedly left on her own in an unfamiliar city and country. We will remember Barbara for many thing, but her cheerful willingness to extend a helping hand to Gene's mother is right at the top of the list. She will be missed, especially around the Greenwald Thanksgiving table. Our condolences to Marge and Barry and Jessica and Jeffrey and their families, Gene and Ann

Truly unique in so many ways. Bright, inquisitive, caring, Barbara was a wonderful sister in law. Besides, she loved my cooking and was always hungry!
