Alan Barrett

July 2, 1922 -  November 3, 2017

Philip Alan Pomeroy Barrett, son of the late Percy Philip and Mary Matha (Darragh) Barrett, passed from this life on November 3, 2017. He was predeceased by his brother, James Barrett and his sister, Margaret Elizabeth Brown and his longtime friend William Horge. He is lovingly remembered by his friend, Olga Senkus Horge and her children, cousin William Madigan of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces Heather Barrett of Buelton, California, and Diane Brown-Couture of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts; and his nephew, Philip Barrett of Coconut Creek, Florida.

Mr. Barrett was educated at St. Leo’s School and McGill University, and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was later employed by Advertising Associates, Walcom, and the Readers’ Digest.

Mr. Barrett had a lifelong love of the arts and was a devoted subscriber to the Montreal Symphony. He his remembered for his quick wit, compassion for all creatures, encyclopedic knowledge of films, and his delight in nature. Until late in life, he took long walks daily, savouring his beloved city of Montreal. For most of his life he was a communicant of Ascension of Our Lord Church in Westmount.

Mr. Barrett’s family and friends are grateful for the staff of the Montclair Residence who cared for him with hands and heart.

The family will receive the condolences on Tuesday, November 7th 2017 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension of Our Lord Church, 375 Kitchener Avenue, Westmount (QC), H3Z 2G1 (514) 932-3131.
